SBI PO Recruitment

SBI PO Recruitment is done every year to single out the most eligible candidates for the post of Probationary Officer. In the year 2018, a total of 2000 vacancies were announced for the post of SBI PO. Being one of the most lucrative career options in the field of Banking, SBI PO Exam attracts millions of candidates every year who try their luck to ace this prestigious exam.

SBI PO 2019 Exam Pattern

The examination for SBI PO recruitment process is carried out in three phases i.e. Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Group Discussion and Personal Interview. As SBI's propensity to change the face of exam pattern is very well known, we may get to see a revised pattern for SBI PO 2019 Exam. Following is the expected pattern of SBI PO 2019 Exam if there is no change in the pattern this year and it remains the same as last year's:

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks is conducted online. This test is of 1-hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

Candidates have to qualify the test by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. there will be no sectional cutoff. An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 10 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) are shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Phase – II: Main Examination

Main Examination consists of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests is online. Candidates have to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of the Objective Test, Descriptive Test is administered.

Objective Test:

The objective test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 Sections for total 200 marks. The objective test has separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the Tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Descriptive Test:

The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks is a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in the objective test.

  • A Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both – Preliminary and Main examination): There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.

Phase – III: Group Exercises (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test are arranged in descending order in each category. The adequate number of candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank are called for Group Exercises and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Exercises & Interview are decided by the Bank.

SBI PO 2019 Eligibility Criteria

The Eligibility Criteria for the SBI PO 2019 Recruitment Process is expected to remain the same as 2018's. Here is the detailed description for the eligibility criteria to apply for SBI PO 2018:

1. Essential Academic Qualifications:

(As on 31.08.2018) Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government. Those who are in the Final year/Semester of their Graduation may also apply provisionally subject to the condition that, if called for the interview, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before 31.08.2018. Candidates having integrated dual degree (IDD) certificate should ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before 31.08.2018. Candidates possessing the qualification of Chartered Accountant may also apply.

Age Limit:

(As on 01.04.2018): Not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on 01.04.2018 i.e candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.04.1988 and not later than 01.04.1997 (both days inclusive).

SBI PO 2019 Selection Procedure

Conventionally, SBI conducts the examination in three phases in order to carry out the complete recruitment process. The three steps that SBI follows for the recruitment are as follows:

  • Preliminary Examination (Objective Test).
  • Online Mains Examination (Objective Test and Descriptive Test).
  • Group Exercises and Personal Interview.

The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) are not added for the selection and only the marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in Objective Test and Descriptive Test, are added to the marks obtained in GE& Interview (Phase-III) for preparation of the final merit list.

The candidates have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercises & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating the converted marks of Written Test and Group Exercises &Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection is made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.

Results of the candidates who have qualified for Group Exercises & Interview and the list of candidates finally selected is made available on the Bank's website. The final selection list is published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar and also on Bank’s website.
